well rested and happy

Happy Friday! I have a good feeling about this weekend. I woke up this morning with a smile on my face instead of a tired groan after a glorious nights rest, and I feel like I can take on the world! Oh, how I love sleep.

LM had a sleepover with her cousins so we only had to worry about Lark last night and she slept like an angel. We've been hanging out just the two of us this morning and I love being able to give her my undivided attention. I'm so glad my sister is willing to take LM every once in a while so I can have this one-on-one time with Lark while she is still so little...I feel like I need to soak her baby-ness in while I can...

I'll leave you with a link to a guest post I did today over at Collected Blog. The lovely Bri asked me to share one of my collections and I bet you can guess what it is I hoard collect... Head over to get a peek at some dresses you won't be seeing on Little Vintage Style anytime soon since they are either too big or too little for my girls at the moment. Do you collect anything yourself?

thanks for stopping by

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet a reader, Liz (hi!), who happened to move into my neighborhood and recognized me. It was so fun to talk with her for awhile in person rather than online - turns out we have quite a bit in common! She brought Lark and LM these adorable handmade gifts which was so sweet of her and we love them! Thank you Liz!

I think I have some of the nicest readers out there, so thank you for taking the time to stop by my little space. I would love to know what you'd like to see more of on the blog - to be honest, I'm feeling a little uninspired lately so any suggestions would be appreciated. I know you don't want to see baby pictures every day! I have a few projects in the works, but its taking me a lot longer to create these days...I'm looking forward to getting my evenings back once Lark starts going to bed earlier.

And, I thought it might be fun to do a little q&a post so if you have anything you'd like to ask me shoot me an email at stacecadet21[at]gmail[dot]com and I'll do my best to answer them. You can send your suggestions via email too if you'd like... Thanks friends!

little vintage style v.2

Welcome to Little Vintage Style 2.0! Around here it has been chilly with lots of wind, so I tried to think of places we could venture out to that were inside rather than be stuck in the house all day. Yesterday we went to the Museum of Art at BYU for some culture - which in the world of a 2 1/2 year old equals twirling around in a big room for an hour, but I enjoyed looking at the art!

Right now they have a beautiful exhibit on Carl Bloch - I highly recommend going if you can snag a reservation, they're free. Next to that exhibit is one on the written word/type (which you don't need a reservation for) and the main attraction is what I can only call a ginormous cube of stacked books. Now if that doesn't scream photo backdrop I don't know what does! Please excuse the iffy lighting, I tried my best...

I promise she was happy even though these pictures don't show it, they are the shots I could get in between all of the twirling and running around. And in case you were wondering, Lark was fast asleep in the stroller which was exactly what I wanted her to be doing!

Dress: vintage Kate Greenaway frock, ebay
Leggings: Target
Shoes: Saltwater sandals

Link yours up below, we'd all love to see!

bunny

Hope you had a nice Easter weekend! We certainly did, but the only pictures I have to show for it are of LM dancing in the kitchen with only her undies on - we like to celebrate with class. Since one of my goals as a mother is to never let any of my children end up with naked pictures of themselves on the internet I won't be posting them... but it was pretty stinking cute.

Since I didn't get any pictures of us dressed up on actual Easter day (glad I at least have these), I tried to make up for the lack of documentation by sticking bunny ears on the girls this morning. LM wasn't very interested, but little Larkie had no choice...

...at first she wasn't into it either, but with enough baby talk I finally managed to eek out some little smiles!

Some of the highlights from our weekend:
- dying Easter eggs and then promptly eating them
- chatting with old friends
- having dinner with new friends
- unexpectedly running into my sister and her family at Costco
- impromptu hot dog dinner with family at Costco
- attending church services

shop update and happy easter!

Hey! I added some new items to the shop, head on over if you'd like to take a closer look.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who linked up in the very first little vintage style! The kiddos were adorable and I loved perusing your blogs to get to know you better. Next time I will leave the collection open longer to account for different time zones so everyone will have a chance to join in the fun. Will your little ones be wearing vintage for this coming Easter Sunday? If so, I hope you share pictures next week!

Have a great weekend!
And let's not forget the true celebration of Easter...

little vintage style v.1

I am excited to start this new feature and I hope you will enjoy it and want to participate! If you are new or didn't read my last post about this, every Wednesday I will be posting pictures of my girls (and sometimes me too) wearing vintage clothing. Collecting and selling vintage children's clothing is a passion of mine that I have a lot of fun doing, and I wanted to document my girls wearing some of my favorite finds/buys before they grow out of them. I know there are a lot of you who have a soft spot for the vintage look too, so I would love to see your little ones or yourself showing off your duds! Link up at the end of the post and make sure to click on other entries to connect with more vintage loving mommas out there... and if you would, please pass the word along!

This week we got dressed up for an early Easter egg hunt at Grann's house. I hadn't really planned what the girls would wear for their 'official' Easter dresses this year, so I dug both of these out of the closet last minute. I really love them and this is most likely what they will be wearing on Easter day too (my mom traditionally sews her granddaughters Easter dresses which we love, but they won't be done in time this year)!

On the Little Miss: vintage 50's dress - etsy, headband - old navy, vintage oxfords - thrifted
On Lark: vintage embroidered dress - given to me by my SIL (she originally gave it to me to sell in the shop, but I couldn't part with it)
On me: vintage dress - etsy, sunglasses - UO

bowled over

This weekend we took LM bowling for the first time. I loved her tiny bowling shoes and she loved picking out which color ball to throw down the lane.

In the end, even though I got the only strike of the game (pat on back), I got beat out by a two-year-old! I'm serious. I'm not even going to show you the picture Husband took of the scoreboard (although I will tell you that he only beat her by 4 points, ha ha).

Cute Lark was our sleepy cheerleader on the sidelines - she didn't even know we left the house.

Random fact about me: I was in bowling club in high school and our team was called the Ditsy Chicks (no comment). It was a lot of fun, although I think I was the worst one on the team - it always takes me a game or two to get warmed up before I'm any good (this time was no different).

We ended our game with an impromptu dance party, then commiserated/laughed about our mediocre bowling skills over yummy cupcakes. How was your weekend?

new feature... little vintage style

In the past I did a couple of sporadic 'little style' posts of LM wearing some cute vintage outfits. I meant to keep them up as more of a regular feature showing how we style children's vintage in our home, but somehow I haven't done one in almost 1, 2, 3, 4... 5 months!? How did that happen? I'll go ahead and blame being pregnant since that is the ultimate excuse and now I can no longer milk it... But, my point is I want to start documenting my favorite vintage clothing on my favorite almost 3-year-old girl again before she grows out of them all! And, now I have another sweet little one to add in the mix too (who happily gets to grow into her sisters vintage).

I am telling you this because I want to invite you to get your cute kiddos all gussied up in their vintage clothing and join me! I'll be posting 'little vintage style' pictures every Wednesday and you'll be able to link up with me here. I hope you'll want to show off your little ones because I want to see them, whether they are covered in vintage from head to toe or only sporting a poodle barrette! It will be a fun way to connect with other vintage lovin' mommas out there too (and if you know any invite them over).

Of course if you want to jump in the picture with them all the better, I'm planning to sneak in a few myself. It'll be a good kick in the pants to dress up for the day - something I have not been doing much lately since the imminent threat of spit up continually lurks... but no more letting that stop me from being fashionable - at least once a week for now... :)

Hope to see you Wednesday!

lark// 1 month

Our tiny Lark is already 1 month old! She started smiling this week, mostly in the morning so my days are now starting out extra happy with me doing an embarrassing amount of baby talk... I tried to get her to smile for the camera but of course she wouldn't crack one when I wanted her too!

She is sleeping really well, only waking up once during the night to eat and going right back to sleep. So far she seems to prefer not using a pacifier (although she will), which I think is awesome because LM wanted a pacifier all the time and it was quite the chore keeping it in her mouth. On the down side she has developed a sensitive gag reflex which strikes about once a day and empties the entire contents of her stomach. It's gross (and sad), I won't go into detail.

LM wanted to play the trumpet for Lark so we sang her Happy Month Day...

...she didn't want to take a turn on the horn though, ha! We love you Larkie!

I'll be taking pictures of her wearing her brooch monthly instead of weekly from now on.
See her at 1 week and 2 +3 weeks.

h+s kids: milla plum

One of the reasons I love selling vintage clothing is knowing that cast off, forgotten, or (in the best case) once loved items are getting a new life. So I did a little happy dance when I saw these pictures of items purchased from my shop...

I don't think these two dresses could have been paired with a more perfect model than Milla Plum, stylish daughter of James from Bleubird fame. I would absolutely love to see these pictures matched up next to the little girl who once wore them!

Lookin' good Miss Plum!

shop update

A peek at the latest shop update for the kiddos!

And something pretty I would wish for you.
Have a lovely weekend!

p.s. I did a little guest post for Charlotte on her brand new blog Little Lottie Loves today. She posts the cutest kids stuff, show her new space some love and check it out!

muffin tin color sorting

The time I've dreaded as finally arrived - LM has dropped her afternoon nap most days (I was really hoping she would at least give me a few more months after the baby was born...sigh). Honestly, this has been harder for me to adjust to than taking care of two children. The day seems much longer when I don't get a two hour break mid-way through, and I need to get some of my work done while it is still light out (ie. taking pictures of clothes).

So, to keep my sanity and help both of us transition into this new phase I have been thinking of little activities for her to do while I take advantage of her busy mind and hands. Today it was color sorting buttons in a muffin tin.

She likes playing with my button jar, so I thought I could turn her usual dumping-them-out-and-then-putting-them-back-in-the-jar routine into a more educational activity.

It was as simple as taping different colored paper circles in a muffin tin (with a couple of misc. polka-dot cups thrown in). I didn't have brown paper so I colored one using a brown crayon, which you can do for all of them if you're lacking in paper supplies. She picked up on the concept quickly and it kept her entertained for awhile.

With a little help and direction from me all of the buttons were put in the right spot ...and then she made up her own button game that involved throwing handfuls of them up in the air. I'm pretty sure I'm missing quite a few now, but hey, I'll have some dresses listed in the shop soon so...SUCCESS!!!

This month I'm also using this dollar download to give me daily theme ideas. Right now I feel like I need to be told what to do or we'll end up sitting on the couch watching a movie everyday. Anyone else relate? What do you do to keep your kids and yourself happy/sane during stay-at-home days?

lark// 2 + 3 weeks old

I almost forgot to take Lark's two week pictures (and I am posting them  a week late). The sun was going down and she didn't want to cooperate once she woke up so I enlisted LM to help me keep her happy. At her two week check up she had gained over a pound since she was born - I knew she was growing way too fast! That white onesie is already getting too small which makes me a little sad, but at least she still has chubby cheeks for me to smooch on!

At three weeks old Lark has moved up a diaper size (when she gets a little bigger I'll start using our cloth diapers again), and she gets the hiccups almost every time after she eats which make her sound like a tiny human cuckoo clock. She started sleeping 4 hour increments at night and now shares a room with her big sister. I love being able to say 'the girls room' - the plural makes me happy.

You can kind of see her dimple in the picture above, I love it.

How was your weekend? We relaxed at home while listening to some inspired words and I am feeling more renewed. Here's to the start of a lovely week!
