thankful + joules clothing

We spent Thanksgiving with family in the desert. It was a nice respite from our cold temps and was probably our last chance to run around outside without hats, coats, mittens, scarves, and boots for awhile. These two girls took advantage of every minute they had with their cousins while us adults enjoyed playing games and talking late into the night. Sometimes holidays can seem hectic and go by way too fast, but I felt like this Thanksgiving was slow and we were all able to fully enjoy being with each other. It was nice.

I really am truly thankful for this little family of mine and the time I get to spend with them every day. This was a difficult year of loss for me, but because of that loss it was also a year of immense personal growth. The greatest gift I received was a more abundant appreciation and love for my children, and a greater understanding of what a blessing it is to be a mother. That is what I am most thankful for this year.

Recently Joules was kind enough to send us some clothing for the girls including these two dresses. I must say they have quickly become a favorite staple in their wardrobe. The girls love that they are warm and comfortable with just the right amount of twirl, while I am a big fan of the quality and the fact that they still look brand new after several washes (not to mention no ironing required!). All of the girls clothing at Joules is darling and would make a really nice Christmas gift. Here are some of my favorite pieces - 123456.

Oh, and don't try to come between a toddler and her polka dots. There can never be enough. :)

saddle shoes

Did you know that Payless sells the classic black and white saddle shoe? I had no idea until I went on the hunt to find a pair of oxfords for LM since she outgrew my favorite ones last month. They didn't have her size available, but I'm definitely keeping my eyes on these if I don't have any luck finding them at the thrifts first.

Happily, I did end up finding the perfect pair of oxfords today on Etsy. I'm sure they will be making an appearance on LVS soon!

nursing friendly dresses

I am ready for this baby to come out. And not necessarily because I am uncomfortable, because I have really easy pregnancies, it's more like I am just ready for a change. I'm sure this time of year doesn't help with Spring right around the corner too. I am looking forward to both baby and warmer weather!

I spent some time this weekend day-dreaming that I'd already had the baby and browsed for nursing friendly button-up vintage dresses on etsy. I found the perfect one for me (not pictured), but I liked all of these too. It makes me feel like my time spent searching was not as wasted if I share with you, hope you see something you like! :)

Happy Monday!

thrifting maternity

(33 weeks)
We ran a few errands today and at one store a lady exclaimed to me, "You must be ready to pop any day now!" To which I replied that I actually have seven more weeks to go (thinking am I really that big yet?)... And instead of stopping there she went on to say, "You do? Really? No way, are you having twins?!"

Um, no, but thanks for making me feel like a blimp.

I actually thought it was more funny than offensive, but there are just some things you probably shouldn't say to a pregnant woman :)

So I've been meaning to talk about maternity clothes. Like how other than my maternity jeggings pretty much everything I wear does not come from the way too expensive maternity section. In these pictures the blazer, shirt, and belt are all thrifted, as is a lot of what I wear in my baby bump pictures. I don't believe it is necessary to spend a lot of money on clothes to fashionably dress a growing belly, and I'm always searching for a vintage gem too!

Some things I like to look for when thrifting 'maternity' are skinny belts (say hello to your waistline again!), loose fitting blouses (like above), dresses a size or two bigger than I normally wear (if I really love them I can take them in post-baby), long cardigans (they can help cover up zippers that won't zip all the way up in back or shirts that are too short), and comfortable flat boots and shoes.

jeggings

jeg`gings: pants so comfortable you won't remember you have them on.

Okay, so jeggings haven't made it into the dictionary yet, but that is my personal definition. After a week or two of using an elastic hairband to keep my pants on I went out and bought these maternity jeans and I. am. in. love! If you are pregnant (or not) come over to the jeggings-side. You won't ever go back. You can plan on my wearing these with boots every day all winter long.

her new kicks

I've been on a shoe hunt for the Little Miss since she seems to have grown out of hers from one day to the next. I was able to find a pair of warm boots rather easily, but I couldn't find any sneakers that were to my liking (she liked ones that had flashing lights and I just can't go there). And then I remembered these shoes I loved last year - and then I did a little dance because now they are only $13.99! Score!

baby bean vintage daywear

Today I am dreaming of warmer weather, especially since spotting the Baby Bean Vintage Daywear Spring/Summer collection. I can't wait to dress the Little Miss in cute dresses and rompers and I would love to stock her closet with these one-of-a-kind creations made from vintage fabrics.

p.s. I am loving the plaid tights and ankle boot combo in the middle right pic, are you?

zzzzz

Photobucket

I'll be the first to admit this blog has been a snooze-fest lately. I've felt so uninspired and my ideas for posts have been fresh out. But today I saw this pretty necklace and I was instantly inspired to do two things. One, make it. And two, take all my vintage clothing pictures against a white wooden background. I feel a little stirring of my creative juices so hopefully I'll get out of this slump soon and have something to show for myself. In the meantime, thanks for hanging in there. I'm trying to whip something fun up for next week!

baby, its cold outside

The cold rainy weather has me wondering what to do with a toddler during the winter months. I can't imagine not being able to play outside or go on walks! So, if we are to remain outside at all the Little Miss will need some warm winter clothes and Bonpoint's girls outfits are exactly what I would love to dress her in (and myself)! But, considering the price tag I'll just have to use their looks for inspiration.

And I would love these pink rose rain boots for her to do some puddle splashing!

sunday best

Ambrosia Girl has started a Flickr group called Sunday Best to "prove that ‘modestly fashionable’ is not a contradiction." I already love it and if you are in need of some modest inspiration too then join up, the group is public. I'm usually not the type to take pictures of what I'm wearing, but this seems like it will be fun!

small magazine

I love getting ideas for kid's fashion from small. They feature a lot of indie artists and etsy shops and I always discover a new-to-me shop or artist I love! Check out the new issue here!

dress up

Most days I opt to be the practical mom in a t-shirt and jeans (okay, sweats if we don't leave the house). But, I wouldn't mind having one of these Lulu's dresses in the closet for a more put together day.

And I wish I knew about this site when I was searching high and low for affordable bridesmaids dresses because they have some really pretty options.

sew :: inspired

I am loving these feminine belts. Sometimes I want a little flower and bow adornment but not in the form of a bouquet on top of my head. I think putting it on a belt is perfect and would be a fun project to do yourself!

petits habits

I'm happy to say the buttons were found and I am SO close to putting some items up for sale in my shop. It'll be a big relief to finally 'open' and see what happens! It was a lot more work than I expected, but I am having fun with it!

In the meantime Petits Habits has been providing me with oodles of inspiration and I hope they provide some inspiration for you too!

vintage swimsuits

I don't think I could love these swimsuits more. I wish I could go back in time to 1954 and snatch all of them up!

rosette headband

Although I LOVED my wedding, I can't help but dream of doing it all over again with a different look. And if I could have my dream come true, my bridesmaids just might have to wear this headband...

But which color?
