progress...and a break

I spent a lot of time last weekend crocheting granny squares and being uplifted while listening to my church's General Conference. I have to say I am becoming a bit addicted - I can no longer just relax without feeling like I need to be working a hook! But, I am going to have to force myself to take a break because I really think if I keep up this pace I am going to get a stress fracture in my right hand. It kills. I am quite pleased with my progress so far though. Maybe I'll just tuck in all those tails... then I promise I'll stop.

bits and pieces

the colorful middles of my granny squares so far

I attended Kelly's crochet class a few weeks ago. I highly recommend it - she corrected my improper technique and has me well on my way to crocheting the granny square blanket of my dreams. I just need about ten more colors and then I can really get in the groove.

The Little Miss is starting to walk down the stairs by herself. The first time she did this it brought me to tears - an emotional combination of pure joy in witnessing her accomplishment and the realization that my baby is growing up.

Working a booth at the Health and Wholeness Expo last weekend was fun. It was a good reminder to me that I need to better put into practice all of the knowledge I have gained about health. First on my list is to start making my own cottage cheese from grass-fed raw milk since it is one of the Little Miss' favorite foods.

I exercise three times a week with other moms in my neighborhood and every Friday we do Zumba. Have you gotten in on the craze? My abs are sore from all the hip shaking fun.

Have a wonderful weekend!

i'm smitten

...by a knit stuffed animal. Did you see this Bobbi Bear on the Purl Bee? I am so smitten by him. Not sure why I've decided he's a boy, but I love how big and cuddly he looks and I think someone should make one for me.

I'll let the Little Miss cuddle with him too.

hearts on a string

I've been trying to brush up on my crochet skills and this weekend I made some hearts on a string for a little bit of Valentine's Day decor.

I decided to go with natural and gold thread instead of pink or red so I could leave it hanging up all year long. In order to keep the hearts flat I sprayed them with hairspray on both sides.

Husband proposed to me on V-day three years ago so we always celebrate with a mini-reenactment of that night by going to the same sushi restaurant and making chocolate covered strawberries at home for dessert. Maybe this year we will dance under the stars again too.

Are you doing anything special for Valentine's Day?

granny squares

Photobucket

I am adding 'make a granny square blanket' to my list of goals this year. But I suppose I should add 'learn how to crochet a granny square' first. I found instructions here. Crossing my fingers I'll be able to figure it out, wish me luck!

Anyone care to join me? Do you already know how to crochet a granny square?

vintage baby knits

I was browsing through the book, Vintage Baby Knits, the other day at the bookstore and came so close to buying it - until I remembered that I don't really know how to knit. Today I came across the author, Kristen Rengren, discussing her book on whip up here, and was once again wishing I could just sit down and get to work on one of these adorable patterns!

Wouldn't a pair of knit soakers be the perfect baby shower gift?
