Luvsome pet food GIVEAWAY - closed

Do your kids have daily or weekly chores? We have been trying to do better about getting LM and Lark to help around the house this past year by giving them responsibility over their room and a few other household chores. It definitely hasn't always been a smooth road for us with whining on their end and yelling on mine, but I am finally seeing some results as I have tried to be consistent and I'm not going to lie, it feels awesome. The other day I asked them to clean their room while I nursed Tommy and put him down for his nap and when I came out they had actually done it. The best part was they were so proud of themselves and excited to show me what a good job they had done!

One of LM's jobs is to feed our cat Tiger Lily every morning. This actually happens down in our basement storage room which is where we keep the cat food, water bowl, and litter box. My husband had the brilliant idea to install a cat door on the storage room door so Tiger Lily can go in and out as she pleases and it has worked out so great. It wouldn't have made for very appealing pictures though, so this day we completely confused her by feeding her in some natural light, ha!

LM has accepted feeding the cat as her responsibility and is even starting to take some pride in it which has been fun to watch unfold. Sure there are still days that she doesn't want to do it, or she needs Lark to go with her into the basement if she's feeling a little timid, but for the most part she does it willingly and knows it is a way we expect her to contribute in our home. I try to make sure both girls know how much we appreciate their help and that they play an important role in our household as well as in our family.

Luvsome gave us some of their nutritionally balanced cat food for Tiger Lily to try out and she has been making the switch over to it the last couple of months. Apparently, she was ready for a change because she ripped a hole into the bottom of the bag before we could even open it, thus the reason it is opened upside-down. We used their recommended method of transitioning Luvsome cat food into her old cat food slowly over a period of time, adding a little more each time until the old cat food is completely phased out. This is to help prevent your cat from getting an upset tummy. I am happy to say that Tiger Lily is doing really well on Luvsome now!

Would you like to try out Luvsome for your pet? They are generously offering my readers two switch kits, each with a free coupon for Luvsome and a $50 gift card. Simply leave a comment telling me what kind of pet(s) you have and their name(s) along with your email. I'll choose two lucky winners next Friday. Good luck!

so pretty! felt book review & GIVEAWAY (closed)

Chronicle Books recently sent me a copy of So Pretty! Felt by Amy Palanjian, former editor of ReadyMade Magazine. It is a compilation of 24 simple felt projects by an assortment of contributors from around the world. In the book you will find beautiful photography as well as helpful instructions and templates for each project. I was glad to see the book began with a 'Tools and Techniques' section outlining basic tools, felt facts, and basic embroidery stitches so even beginners can feel confident getting started. You can even learn how to make your own felt from that wool sweater you never wear (or from one you thrifted).

Flipping through the book inspired me to get my felt stash out. I decided on a quick project that I knew my girls would love to wake up to the next morning and made a couple of the rosette hairpins with added leaves. The instructions were clear and easy to follow and I was right - the girls loved them! Hair clips of any kind don't stay in Lark's fine hair very well, but LM's curls looked extra cute with a little splash of Spring color.

She can't not be silly during photo shoots. It makes for my favorite pictures ;)

You can purchase So Pretty! Felt from AmazonBarnes & NobleIndieBound, or Chronicle Books.

To win a copy of the book simply leave a comment below. Follow this blog on Bloglovin for an extra entry and leave a separate comment letting me know. I'll announce the winner next Wednesday, good luck!

(closed) shabby apple giveaway

Shabby Apple offers a great selection of vintage inspired clothing. I wore one of their dresses in our family pictures when Lark was a baby and it is still one of my go-to pieces that is so easy to throw on. What I love most about it is it doesn't require any undershirts or slips to make it modest - the less layers I have to put on the better!

I would wear the dress pictured above in a heartbeat as well as this skirt, and this fun peplum dress (who else has a thing for polka dots lately?)! Want to win a $50 gift card to their online shop? Just leave a comment below about something that made you smile recently. I'll announce the winner next week. Open to US residents only. Good luck!

***Congrats Sarah M, you won! Please contact me within 3 days to claim your prize, or another winner will be chosen. Thanks!

something to brighten your day - CLOSED

I haven't had much thrifting luck lately, so I was thrilled to stumble upon two vintage floral suitcases sitting forlornly on the floor in the wrong aisle. They were like two little happy surprises waiting to brighten my day! So, I thought I would like to brighten someone else's day too and give one away!

I'll be keeping the blue one (below) for the Little Miss to play with and take on overnighters, but the orange one pictured above is up for grabs! I would say it is in good condition, a few scuffs here and there but the zipper works fine and it is clean overall. Measures about 17"x10".

To enter leave a comment on this post telling me how someone has brightened your day before, or what would brighten your day! And, although not required passing this giveaway along is appreciated and will gain you another entry (leave a separate comment). I'll have to keep this one to US readers only because of shipping costs, sorry! A winner will be picked randomly and announced on Friday the 25th, good luck! :)

august giveaway!

I am so happy and proud to announce that my sister Shelly just opened her own etsy shop - Hairblooms! She is selling these and many other adorable headbands for babies and toddlers. They are so beautiful, yet simple enough to go with any outfit whether fancy or casual.

I'll let her tell you in her own words why she decided to open up shop with this snippet from her etsy profile:

"Hairblooms began as an idea I had one quiet afternoon while I was holding my daughter. She was born with a bright red birthmark, called a hemangioma, on the tip top of her head. And, although everyone who knows her agrees that she is cute as can be with a “cherry on top,” I noticed that sometimes in public people would stare at her birthmark and miss seeing the beautiful girl she is inside and out. So, in thinking of ways I could teach her that she and every little girl are beautiful just the way they are, I came up with the idea to celebrate her beauty by making headbands for her... I decided to name my shop “hairblooms” because I like to think of each of my headbands as a little heirloom I’m giving to my daughter. And what they represent – teaching your little girl that she is beautiful exactly the way she is – is an invaluable gift that I hope can be passed down from every mother to daughter."

To celebrate her grand opening she has offered you a chance to win one of her gorgeous headbands!

You have two chances to win,

1) Just visit her shop and then come back and leave a comment saying which headband you would like if you win!

2) Link to this giveaway on your blog and then come back and let me know!

The giveaway will close on Sunday, August 30th.

Good luck!

Bri was the winner of the June Giveaway and here is the romper I made for her (or more appropriately for the future mini her)! I altered the pattern so there wouldn't be a seam all the way up the front and I like it a lot better this way. Bri told me her favorite colors are kelly green and yellow. I hope you like it Bri!

July's giveaway is in the works, so check back soon!
