little vintage style: welcome autumn

Hello, Autumn! We welcome you with pumpkin-colored pants and a big pink bow for good measure. 

We are so happy with the lovely weather you brought along with you, and the beautiful colors creeping down the mountainside closer to us everyday. 

We don't even mind that your arrival dried up the stream bed. We like throwing rocks just the same and even have our pick of the lot...

making a house a home: snapshots

We got to check some pretty major fixes off our house renovation list this past week. Including a new roof, and prepping the kitchen for the cabinets to be installed today (I haven't seen it all finished yet but there is a peek above, eep!). Husband has been working hard to help my father-in-law frame new walls in the basement to utilize the space better, and we are finally done patching and sanding all of the walls upstairs and have begun to paint!

There is still quite a bit of work to do, but we are moving along at a much quicker pace than I had anticipated. It feels so nice to slowly wash away the presence of past owners and make this house ours.

And, I have to say, it is starting to feel like home.

Happy Friday friends. We made it to the end of the week of shop updates! Thanks for hanging in there while I bombarded you with these posts. It feels nice to have so many items listed in my shop instead of just sitting around in my craft room waiting for a new home. 

Now I am moving all of my energy over to painting our house this weekend. One of these days I am going to need a vacation. ;)

Round two of the 'week of shop updates' has been added! If you see something you love but also want to see what will be added in the coming days, don't fret - purchase the item and then simply send me a convo or write me a note in the message to seller box and I will wait to ship your order(s) until the end of the week. I will also combine shipping on all multiple orders and refund the difference. As you can see this update is for girls, but I will have some boy stuff coming. It is just so much harder to come by boy vintage!

canning

 

Over the weekend I rounded up the girls in my family who could come for a day of canning peaches. Canning is something that I remember my mother doing often while I was growing up. She would can the peaches from the tree in our backyard, make jam from my grandmother's large raspberry patch, and, my favorite of all, bottle concord grape juice.

We had grape vines all along our back fence and I would watch with concern for our supply as the neighbors horses tried to nip the bunches off the vines. I can still remember the delicious smell as we harvested them when they were ripe. We drank homemade grape juice every Sunday.

So now that I am older I want to learn all I can to continue this tradition of homegrown bottled food, and I want my kids to have similar memories to my own. Especially since we inherited two large apple trees and one very large pear tree (badly in need of pruning, we are hoping we can bring it back to health) in our new backyard.

I am thinking we need to plant some concord grapes, and a peach tree too...

It hasn't been all house renovation around here, at least for me anyway. I have been hard at work creating a series of shop updates all set to go over the next few days making this a week of new items added almost daily! This is the first of the lot. I hope you won't mind being bombarded as I am really trying to clear as much inventory out as possible this month.
