starting the week out with a bang

Yesterday the Little Miss fell down the concrete stairs in our garage and hit her head. She got a huge dark purple goose egg with red spots on her forehead and some scrapes on her nose and under her eye.

My first thought (after 'why wasn't I there, I wish I could take the pain away, boy that looks bad, don't cry...') was to put a clay pack on the bruise. Bentonite clay helps heal wounds faster by drawing blood to the area, reducing swelling and pain, drawing out the heat, etc. You can read more about it here (that is the brand I use). I highly recommend you add some to your first aid kits, it works wonders with just about anything health-wise. We mixed the clay with water to make a paste and put it over the bruise, covered it with plastic wrap to keep it moist (you don't want it to dry out), and held it in place with one of her headbands.

I told her the clay was medicine to help her get better so she didn't try to pull it off. It helped immediately because she stopped crying and never said it hurt after the clay was on.

So we watched her favorite Noodlebug video...

...and she hugged her lion and rested with Daddy...

...with her fashionably bandaged head...

...and not too much later she felt good enough to ditch the pacifier and play some video games.

We even got a smile.

We put her to bed last night (after making sure her eyes weren't dilated and she wasn't lethargic) with the clay pack on overnight and this morning it looks so much better! It's very light, not swelled at all, and smaller than yesterday - it looks like it has already been healing for a few days at least. The little scrape on her nose where I didn't put clay looks worse than the huge goose egg. I was going to show you a picture but my camera battery died just now. I am just so happy with the results that I wanted to share with you what an amazing job the clay does! As a mother it was so nice to know there was something I could do that I knew would help.

If you have any questions about clay leave a comment and I'll answer in the comments section so everyone can see.

feels like it should be friday

We haven't been up to much around here this week. But, I did manage to round up some boy clothes for the shop. I know I've been adding almost nothing but dresses lately so it will be a nice change. Here they are washed and waiting to be ironed. Hopefully they won't be sitting there too long, but my house seems to be full of piles like this needing attention. So, I am signing off for the week to try to bring some order to the chaos. Wish me luck.

studio of mae

Studio of Mae makes the most amazing reusable fabric wall decals. I've had my eye on the doll sets for awhile now, so I was happy to have the chance to win them (and much more) by entering the competition they are holding for new ideas. I've sent in my ideas and am crossing my fingers with my eyes scrunched shut in anticipation. Check out the details here.

These would look so cute in the Little Miss' room which I am in the midst of redecorating into a more toddler friendly/interactive space.

i'm a sucker for vintage fashion

But I probably don't have to tell you that. I bought three adorable vintage toddler girl patterns over the weekend that I just couldn't resist and am so excited to sew up! These didn't make it into my shopping cart but they are definitely in my favorites...along with many others. Love them.

hello

Happy Memorial Day! I love weekday mornings when I get to wake up next to Husband, and especially ones when he gets up with the Little Miss and lets me sleep in. We took a walk to the park this morning and now are about to have my family over for a bbq and games, oh how I love holidays!

Here are a couple of pictures we took before church yesterday. The Little Miss is wearing a vintage dress I got from 3 Ring Circus. I LOVE it! I want to get some 'official' family pictures taken soon and she will be wearing this dress again. And I am obsessed with her curls in the last picture. I don't know where they came from, but I hope they stay forever!

Enjoy your day!

thirfted goodies: melamine

After the dress photo shoot we came inside and had a tea party. I've been collecting vintage melamine dishware as I plan to make or buy the Little Miss a play kitchen soon. She is starting to really get into pretend play which often involves pretending to drink or eat out of any object that resembles a dish, saying, "Nummy!" and then giving me a taste. So I think a play kitchen is just the thing we need around here.

Melamine is perfect because she can't break it, the design and colors are beautiful (I just realized they match her dress perfectly), and you can find them pretty easily at the thrift store for $0.50 a piece. I think I will get some utensils and pots and pans from Ikea but I'm not sure where to get the food. Do you have any play food you love? I would appreciate some suggestions!

Thanks and have a lovely weekend!

p.s. the giveaway winner will be announced on Sunday so go leave a comment quick!
